Give Zeke a Break!  The Silent Lord’s Acre
Zeke Garthwaite has been gracious enough to have spent the last 54 years auctioneering for our annual Lord’s Acre Fundraiser.  This year which would have been his 55th consecutive Lord’s Acre Auction, he will finally get a break to rest his voice!   It may feel that Covid-19 has taken over our lives.  It may feel downright depressing, looking at all that Covid-19 has done to our nation.  It is splitting families and friends.   At moments it makes us feel as if we will never have direct contact with anyone any more.
With all these feelings the board went into a serious discussion about the Lord’s Acre Supper & Auction.  We hoped to proceed with the event as planned.  As a board we were concerned for the general health of our Lord’s Acre patrons.  We did not want anyone feeling uncomfortable being in tight quarters with others, and possibly becoming a breeding ground for the virus.  We considered getting a tent placed in the parking lot.   But what if it were too cold or rainy?  How would we keep food warm outside?  Who would cook it?  Who would serve it?  How would we protect all those involved?   We had all these thoughts in mind when the decision was made to cancel the event and send you a letter instead.
You will find an enclosed self-addressed letter.  We decided to do a Silent Lord’s Acre Auction this year, and no meal will be provided.  This decision was not an easy one and we hope that this disturbance doesn’t continue.  We are having church each Sunday with hand sanitizer, mask, and social distancing.  We are trying to do what our governor has dictated as we work to maintain our religious freedom.  Something that we have taken for granted in our country for too long.  Though we are holding in-person worship; we felt that having the auction, meal, close quarters, and packed non-distanced crowd would be a poor leadership decision that would unnecessarily put people at risk of spreading and contracting Covid-19.
With this being said, here is the way the Give Zeke A Break Silent Lord’s Acre Auction will work.  You can call your bid to the number below for the item wanted.  Recall for a final bid will be October 27th from noon to closing at 5 pm.    All baked goods and pork packages can be picked up at the church on Sunday mornings November 15th 8-Noon. If this is impossible, call item bid number to make other arrangements.  Here is an example of how to bid.  If you want a delicious pecan pie for let’s say, a fair price of $500, you would call Janet and give her your best bid of $500!  Perhaps you want to bid on the Track Loader Plus Crew, then you would call Marlene.   If you want to bid on multiple items then you need to call multiple people.
